CONCEPT
About Hotel Tenpyo Naramachi
In the heart of Nara, an ancient capital with 1300 years of history, and in a place where you can feel the very pulse of Naramachi,
we've crafted a space inspired by the art of calligraphy.
The artworks displayed throughout the hotel will guide you into this captivating world.
We invite you to enjoy a unique experience that can only be found here.
1 - Calligraphy
Calligraphy
Words expressed through calligraphy carry the thoughts of ancient people, conveying powerful messages that still resonate today.
Nara is a land where language and culture have flourished, giving birth to poetry collections like the Man'yoshu and Hyakunin Isshu, and countless historical documents.

With the hope that our guests can deeply connect with this culture, we have designed our entire hotel to be a space dedicated to "sho" (calligraphy).
Just by pausing to contemplate these works, you can find a sense of peace that will make your journey even more enriching.
2 - Granite
Granite
Our entrance features granite, an igneous rock formed as magma slowly cooled deep underground under immense pressure.
This same stone was used in the Ishibutai Kofun, a late Kofun period tomb in Asuka Village, Nara, tying it deeply to Japanese history.
It symbolizes the historic transition from the Asuka to the Nara period and from the Fujiwara to the Heijo capital, offering visitors a special connection to the past.
3 - Yoshino ceder
Yoshino cedar
Nara Prefecture is famous for its cedar and cypress, with Yoshino cedar being especially prized as a strong and beautiful wood.
At Hotel Tenpyo Naramachi, you can feel the blessings of nature while surrounded by furniture and interiors crafted from these local woods.

The beautiful Yoshino cedar tables in our front desk and lounge area create a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The gentle scent of wood that fills our rooms and facilities helps to refresh the spirit of every visitor.
4 - Traditional crafts
Traditional crafts
At Hotel Tenpyo Naramachi, we incorporate Nara's traditional crafts such as Uda paper, Echizen washi paper, and Akahada-yaki pottery into our facilities and guest rooms.
The warm textures of these materials, seen in elements like our Uda paper lighting fixtures and Akahada-yaki pottery washbasins, will surely enrich your stay.
